InPlanet is thrilled to announce our new partnership with AXA Switzerland, a leader in innovative climate strategies and one of Switzerland’s top insurers. As part of its forward-thinking approach to addressing climate change, AXA Switzerland has committed to purchasing 1,950 Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) carbon removal credits from InPlanet until 2028.
This milestone reflects AXA Switzerland’s dedication to scaling durable carbon removal technologies and supporting long-term climate solutions. From 2026 on, the AXA Group is focusing on supporting promising technologies that enable durable CO2 removal, like ERW. This shift allows AXA to contribute to scaling the CDR industry rather than adhering to a ton-for-ton offset model, maximising the impact of their contribution.
A Shared Vision for Durable Carbon Removal
At InPlanet, we are proud to collaborate with AXA Switzerland in their mission to tackle CO₂ emissions permanently. Enhanced Rock Weathering is a groundbreaking technology that uses finely crushed rock applied to farmland to capture and store CO₂ durably. This process not only removes carbon but also regenerates soils and supports sustainable agriculture.
As a German-Brazilian Agtech company, InPlanet specializes in ERW in tropical regions, where accelerated weathering processes maximize efficiency. Our approach also provides critical co-benefits by replacing conventional fertilizers with locally sourced rock powder, improving soil health, crop yields, and farmer resilience in Brazil.
Sebastian Bradford, Sustainability Manager at AXA Switzerland, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership:
“We are very excited about Enhanced Rock Weathering as a durable carbon removal technology because of its enormous scaling potential as well as the ecological and social co-benefits. We are impressed by InPlanet’s scientific integrity, emphasizing the monitoring of carbon removal, and we are excited to see them scale throughout our partnership.”
Scaling Durable Solutions
This purchase is part of AXA Switzerland’s broader commitment to advancing scalable CDR solutions. Alongside its partnership with InPlanet, AXA Switzerland has entered a long-term agreement with Swiss company Neustark, which captures CO₂ from biogas plants and stores it in demolition concrete through mineralization. AXA Switzerland will also continue to support Nature-Based Solutions as part of a diversified portfolio of climate action initiatives.
InPlanet commends AXA Switzerland’s leadership in using forward offtake agreements to advance the CDR industry. These commitments are critical for driving innovation, ensuring the development of scalable solutions, and achieving the CO₂ removal necessary to meet global climate targets.
Securing Future Supply
As the demand for carbon removal solutions grows, securing future supply becomes increasingly essential. AXA Switzerland’s proactive approach highlights its role as a climate leader, setting a powerful example for how organizations can align with the global transition to net zero.
We look forward to working alongside AXA Switzerland to achieve our shared vision of a sustainable future, where transformative technologies like ERW make a lasting positive impact on the planet.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to scale Enhanced Rock Weathering to reverse climate change!
