About the Role


We are seeking a passionate GIS Assistant to join our team, focusing on cartography, spatial analysis, and enhanced rock weathering projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in geoprocessing, remote sensing, and environmental management. This role is perfect for someone who loves nature, is aligned with our mission, and is eager to grow and stay updated with the latest geotechnology trends. Core working relationships:
You will report directly to Igor, the GIS Modeller. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with field technicians and project managers to ensure the successful integration of GIS data across various projects. Additionally, you will support the Science and Carbon teams by providing spatial data analysis and insights essential for our Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing accurate quantitative information for drawing up contracts with partner farmers, and logistical solutions to optimize the delivery of remineralizer.
  • Manage and process primary and secondary spatial data to produce dynamic and static maps and reports of high technical quality that communicate our operations and results effectively to various target audiences.
  • Undertaking multi-criteria analysis to guide decision-making in different stages of ERW project implementation.
  • Provide data to guide field campaigns, as well as constantly updating monitoring metrics from the data collected from sampling, transport and spreading.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation of the processes and methodologies used, supporting the project reporting and our carbon team by contributing to our project design documents (PDDs).
  • Maximizing the partner farmer's benefits through precision agriculture solutions that promote more efficient use of inputs and increased agricultural productivity, mainly through the mapping of physical and chemical soil properties.

Core Skills & Experience

  • Academic background in areas related to Geosciences, Agricultural Sciences and the Environment, such as Geography, Cartographic Engineering, Agronomic Engineering, Forestry Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences, etc.
  • Core proficiency in QGIS.
  • Experience in an object-oriented programming language such as R and/or Python.
  • Basic understanding of Spatial SQL and DBMS like PostgreSQL & PostGIS.
  • Experience with Digital Image Processing techniques applied to optical and elevation data.
  • Data wrangling skills and familiarity with processing large datasets are a plus.
  • Experience with Spatial Sampling and Geostatistics is a plus.
  • Willingness to keep up-to-date and share knowledge about the latest geotechnologies trends, tools, and methods, especially related to the development of Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
