Joins the Ranks of Waymo, Nvidia, Duolingo, and more
São Paulo, Brazil – March 19, 2025 – InPlanet, a climate tech company pioneering Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) for carbon removal and sustainable agriculture, has been ranked No. 10 on Fast Company’s list of the Most Innovative Companies in Latin America for 2025. This annual ranking highlights organizations that are transforming industries and setting new standards for progress and impact.
“Innovation is at the heart of everything we do, and this recognition underscores the impact of our work in scaling Enhanced Rock Weathering as a viable carbon removal pathway.” shared Felix Harteneck, Co-Founder and CEO of InPlanet.
InPlanet earned a spot on this prestigious ranking for its innovative use of rock powder to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, promote soil regeneration, increase agricultural productivity, and replace and reduce conventional fertilizers in tropical agriculture. This process, known as Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW), mimics and accelerates a natural carbon-capture phenomenon that would otherwise take millennia.

By spreading finely crushed silicate rock on agricultural fields, InPlanet enables the following:
Carbon Sequestration – The process facilitates carbon capture by reacting with CO₂ in the soil, locking it away for thousands of years.
Soil pH management – ERW helps raise soil pH, reducing the need for AgLime
Soil Regeneration – ERW replenishes tropical farmland with essential major and minor nutrients, increasing crop productivity and reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers.
Scalability – By integrating ERW into mainstream farming, InPlanet is unlocking one of the most scalable, nature-based carbon removal solutions available today.
Setting a new standard
InPlanet has achieved remarkable growth, on track to spread 200 kilotons of rock powder in early 2025, this rapid expansion translates to substantial CO₂ sequestration and long-term benefits for soil health. The company was the first to deliver verified carbon credits for Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW), setting a new global benchmark for transparency and trust in the carbon market. Backed by rigorous scientific research, InPlanet ensures that each credit represents one tonne of CO₂ durably removed, helping businesses and governments meet their net-zero goals.
The issuance of the world’s first verified credits marked a major milestone for both InPlanet and the broader carbon removal market. It demonstrated that Enhanced Weathering is a verifiable, and scalable climate solution within an established framework.
“A year ago, Enhanced Weathering was considered too complex to track. Now, we have proven it can be done,” explained Dr. Matthew Clarkson, Head of Carbon at InPlanet. “This milestone represents a tipping point. To meet the scale required by 2050, we need exponential growth, not linear solutions. Being able to verify credits against a third-party standard unlocks that scaling.”
With the framework for certification now established, and growing industry adoption, Enhanced Weathering is positioned as a trusted and scalable pathway for carbon removal.

Why Brazil? The future of carbon removal is tropical
InPlanet is scaling its impact from Brazil, a country uniquely positioned to lead global carbon removal. Its tropical weathering conditions accelerate the ERW process up to ten times faster than in temperate regions. With over 33% of its land dedicated to farming, Brazil offers unparalleled potential for large-scale carbon removal. Moreover, its progressive carbon policies, including the Legal Framework for Carbon Markets, reinforce its leadership in climate action. Additionally, Brazil’s geology provides an abundant, cost-effective source of rock powder, reducing reliance on imported fertilizers.
“At InPlanet, we believe that Brazil is the most promising region for scaling Enhanced Rock Weathering globally,” highlighted Niklas Kluger, Co-Founder and COO of InPlanet. “We find unique policies in place and outstanding investment and research opportunities available. Here we have the opportunity to remove gigatons of CO₂ while revolutionizing soil health and food production.”
A gigaton-scale vision
By 2026, InPlanet aims to have spread enough rock powder to achieve a cumulative potential CO₂ removal of 1 million tonnes. Fast Company’s recognition highlights InPlanet’s commitment to this goal as it expands Enhanced Rock Weathering across Brazil, working alongside farmers to scale climate-positive agriculture. Felix Harteneck, Founder & CEO at InPlanet revealed:
“We’re transforming enhanced rock weathering into a scalable climate solution by partnering with farmers across the tropics. In just two years, we’ve established ourselves as one of the most trusted and scientifically rigorous CDR companies worldwide. Now, as we see our vision becoming reality, we’re positioned to remove gigatons of CO₂ , while empowering agricultural communities to build a more resilient future.”
